Artist Statement
I draw. It's a very simple act, but in a world obsessed with technology, communicating with a pencil is virtually an act of defiance. Speed has supplanted depth, and thoughtfulness is only acceptable when it's expressed in 144 characters or less. It's within this context that the profoundly human action of drawing is so appealing. The process is unapologetically honest and direct, and it is in this spirit that I make my drawings.
Using the simplest of materials, I create worlds steeped in mystical significance: worlds that are opulent and beautiful, featuring powerful archetypes. However, much like our own world, life is ultimately fragile and there is often a sense of impending danger lurking somewhere beneath the surface. Narrative is suggested through the use of universally recognizable symbolism, but the interpretation naturally outweighs the intent. Through these drawings, I invite the viewers to escape into a world that is unabashedly human.
